2021 Symposium

United for a Resilient and Sustainable Future

The 12th annual Iowa State Symposium on Sustainability was held March 1 and 3, 2021, virtually and at Iowa State University’s Memorial Union. “Iowa State University's Live Green! Initiative provided a call to action to all students, faculty, and staff to be fully committed and engaged in ensuring our next sustainable decade. Through our actions and decisions regarding our campus, its operations and initiatives we can make efforts to support a resilient and sustainable future.

Symposium Overview

The 2021 Symposium on Sustainability celebrates the diversity of sustainability efforts and initiatives taking place within our campus community that have united and exemplified resiliency, toward ensuring a sustainable future.  This year’s focus is especially in reflection of our collective work, creativity and adaptability, over the past year.

The pandemic has impacted everyone in a variety of ways, but it has especially changed the way we gather, connect, and socialize. In order to adapt to these new circumstances, we have given much consideration to ensure safety precautions during this year’s event.

Features of this year’s event include virtual keynote lecture by Dr. Robert Bullard, virtual presentation of the 2020 Live Green! Awards for Excellence in Sustainability and hybrid Sustainapalooza event, offering in-person and virtual attendee options and opportunities.

Live Green! Awards for Excellence in Sustainability

The Live Green! Excellence Awards recognize Iowa State University students, faculty and staff who are making an impact on the campus sustainability efforts by generating awareness and interest through initiatives that focus on teaching, research, outreach and/or operations.

Sustainability Tabling Organizations

Poster abstracts and tabling displays are encouraged from all campus activities and projects including research, administration, operations, students and student organizations, community, as well as personal initiatives that support and further sustainability and the Live Green! Initiative. Poster and tabling sessions provide an excellent venue for discussions, networking and the exchange of scientific information.

  • Due to considerations of physical and social distancing precautions and requirements related to COVID-19, the Symposium did not hold a poster reception for the 2021 event.
