Students enjoying Sustainapalooza event

Sustainapalooza is a companion event to Iowa State's Symposium on Sustainability. A different green theme is explored every year, including 2017's “There is No Planet B.” A highlight of Sustainapalooza is our unique GIY "Green-It-Yourself" Centers that provide creative opportunities to make products such as green cleaners, upcycled keyboard magnets and jarred soup kits. In recent years, participants have also enjoyed refreshments made with local ingredients, a clothing swap, artwork, as well as poster and tabling displays. The event offers a great way to network with other sustainability leaders from campus and the Ames community, and if you go, don't forget to walk down the Green Carpet, add a sustainability pledge to the Green Wall and snap a selfie at the Cy-lebrity Photo Booth!

The annual celebration is the signature event for The Green Umbrella, a network of student organizations that pursue and promote sustainability initiatives at ISU. Founded in 2009 by undergraduates Chandra Peterson and Clayton Severton, The Green Umbrella not only offers guidance and support to its member groups but also educates the general population on how to live green. In honor of the group's ongoing work to better our campus, Sustainapalooza was named the ISU Student Activity Center's 2013 Student Event of the Year.
